Avon Oaks fundraiser to benefit victim

GIRARD — A Boardman couple is organizing a June 22 fundraiser to help with the medical expenses of Rachel Widomski, the 28-year-old Canfield native left paralyzed from the waist down after a motorist ran her over in Columbus.

Widomski was working as a bartender at the Haiku restaurant May 15 when she and another woman chased a patron outside for failing to pay his restaurant bill.

The driver was charged with four counts of felonious assault for running over the two women. Widomski remains in a Columbus hospital while receiving physical therapy.

Michelle Hahn and her husband, George, give dancing lessons to Widomski’s mother, Cheryl Widomski, at their dance studio, Ballroom With Style, on Southern Boulevard in Boardman.

The event will be from noon to 8 p.m. at Avon Oaks Ballroom, 1401 N. State Street.

It will feature dancing, a disc jockey, Chinese auction, finger food, 50/50 raffles and amateur dancers performing ballroom dances.

Admission charge is $10. Proceeds will go to the Rachel Widomski Medical Trust at Huntington Bank.

Hahn said she would also welcome donations for the Chinese auction. Help can be offered by calling (330) 770-2733.
