Another weekend, another Italian festival. This time, it’s the Greater Youngstown Italian Festival, the biggest downtown street fair of the summer. The GYIF sprawls across Central Square for at least a block in every direction, with two giant entertainment tents, rides, nonstop entertainment, games and plenty of food. A one-night stand of “Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising,” which tells another side of an Ohio state prison riot, will begin at 8 p.m. at Kent-Trumbull Theater (330) 675-8887.

What happens when a group of actors, writers and directors get together on a Friday night? They shake hands, form teams and then whip up a series of short plays that they perform for the public 24 hours later. That’s basically what will happen again this weekend when Trumbull New Theatre holds its annual 24 Hours of Theater. You can browse fine arts and crafts amid the urban oasis that is the Cedars Lounge patio at Sunday at Cedars. A number of craftspeople and artists will display and sell their wares at the annual event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cedars is at 23 N. Hazel St., downtown Youngstown.

After Sunday at Cedars, check out Ron Chick’s Friends, a big band orchestra, at Judge Morley Pavilion in Mill Creek Park’s Wick Recreation Area off McCollum Road on the West Side. The 7 p.m. show is free.

j “Shark Tales” is the movie of the week at what has come to be known as the grassy knoll, in front of Chevrolet Centre. The free outdoor flick starts at 9 p.m. Monday.

The Gathering of the Irish Clans, the area’s largest Irish festival, will return to the St. Maron’s festival grounds on Meridian Road (West Side) on Aug. 9 and 10.
