Patient-abuse charge
YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown Developmental Center caretaker accused of slapping a 71-year-old man who acted up while having blood drawn July 20 at St. Elizabeth Health Center is charged with patient abuse, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigative branch in Warren.
Angel Cameron, 35, of Mineral Ridge was arraigned Tuesday in municipal court. The assault is a felony because the victim is a resident of the developmental center in Mineral Ridge, a state-run facility, the patrol said.
Cameron accompanied the man to St. Elizabeth’s, and a nurse at the hospital witnessed the slap, the patrol said. The patrol investigates crimes at state institutions. Aaron Powell Jr., a spokesman for the developmental center, said Cameron is on unpaid leave pending an investigation.
