Police arrest Sharon man in stabbing

staff report

FARRELL. Pa. — A man is in Mercer County Jail after being charged with stabbing another man in the neck.

Ernest D. Ford, 44, of Columbia Avenue, Sharon, was arrested by Sharon police at his home around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Sharon Police Chief Michael Menster. He was turned over to Southwest Mercer County Regional Police and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangering.

Regional police had gone to a Darr Avenue home in Farrell to investigate a stabbing that happened about two hours earlier.

Quentin Frantz, 19, told police he had returned home at 1:30 a.m. to see someone running away with a TV. He told police he knew who took the TV and went to look for him. He encountered Ford, who also knew the person, in the area of Fruit Avenue and Union Street, police said. He got into a car Ford was driving to question him. Ford got angry and pulled a knife, stabbing Frantz once in the neck, police said.

Frantz was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, the hospital reported.

After his arraignment at District Court on Idaho Street in Farrell, Ford failed to post $100,000 bond and was taken to jail, the court said.
