Mosquito Lake catfish day geared to teach children
STAFF REPORT
MECCA — Children and adults are invited to spend their weekend at Mosquito Lake catching catfish for fun.
The Trumbull County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs invites Valley residents to the state park for its fifth annual Mr. Whiskers Catfish Day.
Saturday and Sunday, the park grounds will be host to a fishing clinic, contests and free lunch for the children.
The 21-hour event is aimed at teaching children fishing skills, as well as giving adults an overnight fishing reprieve.
Interested parents can bring their children to the grounds on Route 88, in Bazetta, at 10 a.m. Saturday. Adults looking to participate in the overnight fishing can register at 5 p.m.
Adults can opt to participate in two fishing contests for a small fee, or fish for fun at no price.
Fishing licenses are required for the event, which is sponsored by the Ohio State Parks and the Ohio Division of Wildlife, and adults must accompany children under 18.
The event may be canceled due to severe thunderstorms or severe lightning, but will continue through rain without lightning.
