Community to receive new sewers

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — About 14 homes on Champion Avenue East and Clover Crest Drive, along with 34 more about a mile west at State Road, will receive new sewers in a project awarded to a New Springfield company.

Trumbull County commissioners on Wednesday awarded the contract of $630,000 to J.C.M. Contracting Inc.

Figures presented at a public hearing for the project estimated the cost for homeowners along the sewer route to be $95.37 for every front foot of property they have, plus $2,285 per home for the cost of a lateral line from the sewer to the homeowner’s property, said Rex Fee, executive director of the sanitary engineer’s office.

However, Fee said that because the J.C.M.’s bid was $191,048 lower than the engineer’s estimate, the cost per foot will likely drop below the $95.37 estimate. Tapping in to the sewer is mandatory.

Fee said he hopes construction on the project will begin sometime in the fall.

The Champion Avenue part of the job will run from 220 Champion Avenue East (just east of Mahoning Avenue) east to Clover Crest Drive and includes all of the homes on Clover Crest.

The other part of the job will run along State Road from Old Colony Drive west to a new allotment at Nesbar Drive on the north side of State Road, and also take in Prospect Street and Sunnyfield Avenue on the south side of State Road.

The project runs for 5,785 feet altogether and uses 8-inch premature ventricular contraction pipe in most areas, but uses 18-inch PVC pipe along State Road.
