Community orchestra plans summer concert

BOARDMAN — The Boardman Community Orchestra’s summer orchestra will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Boardman Performing Arts Center at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave.

Concert-goers are asked to use the north entrance to the high school.

Songs will include “Stars and Stripes Forever,” “Danse Macabre,” “Barber of Seville Overture,” “Leroy Anderson Favorites,” “Hungarian March” and “Phantom of the Opera.” The conductors will be Rick Smrek, Jerry Koziorynsky and Frank Dispenza.

The Boardman Community Orchestra consists of current Boardman Orchestra students, alumni and musicians from the community. New members are welcome to attend rehearsals at 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the BHS band room.

Bristol Glass exhibit scheduled at Upton House

WARREN — Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. N.W., will have an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday with a Bristol Glass exhibit. This Victorian glassware is known for its rich colors and beautiful enamel work.

The Women’s Park, across from Upton House, is open daily. Visitors can enjoy the gardens and stream and pose for photos on the bridge. For more information, call (330) 395-1840 or go to uptonhouse.org.

As Is to perform in Girard and Warren

As Is, a Christian music group based in Canfield, will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday with Eleventh Hour at the Old Wellman Theater, 29 W. Liberty St., in Girard.

The free show is part of the Coffee House Concert Series. Concertgoers are asked to bring food and clothing for the needy.

On Aug. 10, As Is will perform at 6 p.m. at Packard Music Hall Park, 1703 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Warren, as part of a free picnic-concert sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. For more information about either event, call (330) 501-1555.

Last Saturday, As Is performed at Shadow Woodstock 2008, a music festival in Chagrin Falls.

The band’s members are Michael Baerwalde, Christopher Pruitt, Brittany Myhal, Becky Myhal, Michael Myhal and Alan Mighton.
