FOOD SALES AND DINNERS | Sit-down and takeout events planned


THURSDAY

• Poland United Methodist Church, 1940 Boardman Poland Road, will have takeout dinners available from 4 to 6 p.m. (or until sold out). The cost is $6. No need to preorder or get out of the car. Just drive to the front of the church and your meal of baked stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and green beans will be ready.

FRIDAY

• American Legion Post 290, state Route 14, Columbiana, will have an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Meals include coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, french fries, dessert and coffee. The cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Carryouts will be available. There will be an open mike night from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

• Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church will serve fish dinners from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the church hall, 53 Laird Ave., Youngstown. The menu will consist of baked or fried Icelandic cod or fried haddock; sides of Spanish rice, haluski, macaroni and cheese, french fries or string beans (choose two); coleslaw or applesauce; bread and butter; and coffee or tea. The cost is $9 for adults and $4.50 for children. Dessert will be an additional $1.50. Containers will be provided for takeouts. Orders will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at (330) 792-1005.

• St. Anthony Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown, will sell pizza and other Italian treats. Orders may be placed by calling (330) 746-9577 from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 1 p.m. Friday.

SATURDAY

• Circle of Serbian Sisters, 420 N. Raccoon Road, will sell barbecued lamb, pork and chicken; kielbasa and kraut; and homemade pastries such as apple, cheese and cherry strudel, and krofne (doughnuts), during the Serbian Day picnic.

SUNDAY

• Capt. Charles M. Marino Post 3, Italian-American War Veterans, 113 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, will serve spaghetti dinners from noon to 5 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $3.50 for children 6 to 10. Those under 6 are free. Carryouts will be available; containers can be purchased or patrons may provide their own.

• Breakfasts will be served by the Auxiliary of VFW Triangle Post 2799, 12965 Unity Road, New Springfield, from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The menu includes eggs, hash browns, sausage or ham, pancakes or freedom toast, toast and coffee or tee. A la carte items will also be available.

UPCOMING

• Potential Development and Help Hotline Crisis Center will sponsor a pasta dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 at Local 66 Operators Engineering Hall, 291 McClurg Road, Boardman. Meals include meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and coffee. Takeouts will be available. Adult tickets are $6, and tickets for children 12 and under are $4. The event will include a gift basket raffle/auction, and 50-50 tickets will be sold. Event tickets are available in advance by calling (330) 746-7642 or (330) 747-2696. They will also be available at the door.

• Salem First Friends Church, Jennings Avenue, will host an annual Friends Disaster Service chicken barbecue dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 16. Meals are $9, and hot dog meals for children are $3. Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased at the church office. There will be live entertainment, games, pony rides and a silent auction. • Southington United Methodist Church, state Routes 305 and 534, will sell chicken dinners from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6. The menu includes a quarter chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw and homemade dessert. The cost is $7.50 for adults, $4 for ages 4 to 10 with chicken tenders, and free for children 3 and under. Carryouts will be available.
