NFL ROUNDUP \ News & notes

Steelers: Punter Daniel Sepulveda tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee for the second time in three years and is expected to miss the season. The Steelers used undrafted rookie kicker Julian Rauch of Appalachian State as their practice punter Tuesday, but claimed former Broncos punter Paul Ernster on waivers from Detroit.

Favre seeks reinstatement: Brett Favre has sent his reinstatement paperwork to the NFL and is awaiting approval from commissioner Roger Goodell, league spokesman Randall Liu confirmed Tuesday. Once Favre is granted reinstatement the Packers will have 24 hours to release the iconic quarterback or return him to their active roster.

Jaguars: Receiver Reggie Williams returned to practice Tuesday and was removed from the physically unable to perform list. Williams missed the first three days of training camp due to a sprained right knee. But he was back on the field Tuesday, wearing a protective sleeve, running routes and catching passes.

Bills: Backup quarterback J.P. Losman was held out of practice Tuesday night, a day after jamming the thumb on his throwing hand. Losman’s right thumb was heavily wrapped as he watched practice, but the extent of the injury was not immediately known. Losman indicated earlier in the day that the injury wasn’t severe.

Rams: Guard Mark Setterstrom left before practice Tuesday with numbness in his right leg and foot, which the team believed may have been caused by a brace pinching on a nerve. A precautionary MRI exam was ordered for the third-year player, who had season-ending knee surgery after the third game last season. Setterstrom was one of three offensive line starters to finish the year on injured reserve.
