Hearing set for mother in scalding of baby

STAFF REPORT

NILES — A preliminary hearing is set for a mother accused of purposely dipping her 14-month-old daughter in scalding water.

Catherine Hall, 21, of Warren, will appear at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 8 in municipal court.

Hall has been charged with child endangerment, a fourth-degree felony, as a result of severe burns suffered by her daughter, Summer Hall, on May 6.

Hall told police that she tested the water’s temperature several times before dipping the child into the tub at their Niles home.

Trumbull County Children Services conducted an investigation into the incident before charges were filed earlier this month.

She is free on a $2,500 bond posted July 24, the same day she was booked on the charge at the Niles Police Department.

According to the child’s grandmother, Kelly Hall, Summer was treated at the burn unit of an Akron hospital for burn wounds past her ankles.

Summer’s father, Mitchell Hall, has since filed for divorce. Officials put in place supervised visitation between Catherine Hall and her daughter while an investigation into the incident is under way.
