Festival preparations

YOUNGSTOWN — The city will close Central Square, downtown, to all traffic late tonight into early Thursday morning to begin site preparation and set up for the annual Greater Youngstown Italian Festival. The event will take place Friday through Sunday.

During the festival, Federal Street will be closed from Phelps Street to South Avenue. Market Street will be closed from Commerce Street to Boardman Street.

Road closed for repairs

BOARDMAN — South Cadillac Drive will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday for a repair to the road and culvert located near the west end of the street. The road should reopen at the end of the business day Thursday.

Woman shot in shoulder

YOUNGSTOWN — A 36-year-old East Chalmers Avenue woman told police she was shot in the left shoulder at home around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, but was unable to say who did it.

Carlissa Douglas told officers that she heard a knock at her rear door and, thinking it was her boyfriend, opened it. She recalled seeing a woman and a man before being shot. Douglas somehow ended up on a porch on East Marion Avenue, where police found her. Her condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center was not immediately available.

At her residence on Chalmers, police found blood on the kitchen floor, living room floor, stairs and second-floor landing.

Men’s Night Out planned

YOUNGSTOWN — The Associated Neighborhood Center announces a Men’s Night Out program for ages 13 and older from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road.

The night’s events include basketball with Kelian Turner. There will be a financial workshop presented by Daryl Cameron, a vice president at Wells Fargo, titled “Breaking Out of the Plastic Prison.” Call McGuffey Centre for further details at (330) 744-4377.

Rabies vaccinations

GREENFORD — Mahoning County District Board of Health, in cooperation with the city of Struthers, Animal Charity, the county dog warden, Angels for Animals and volunteer veterinarians, will give rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road (state Route 165).

No appointment is necessary for the clinics. The cost is $2. Dog owners must have their dogs under leash, and cat owners should have their cats caged or carry them in a cloth pillowcase.

Rabies vaccinations are required for dogs, cats and ferrets over 3 months of age in the county health district.

Warren Night Out event

WARREN — An offshoot of the 25-year-old National Night Out crime-prevention event, the Warren North West Neighborhood Association and two other neighborhood groups are sponsoring the second annual Warren Pride National Night Out from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

The event features a parade at 10 a.m. proceeding to city hall from the intersection of High Street Northeast and Elm Road Northeast downtown, a variety of speakers and award presentations between 11 a.m. and noon at the Warren Amphitheater, a children’s costume contest (patriotic or crime-prevention theme) at 12:30, and crafts and dunking booth for city officials from 1 to 4 p.m. in Perkins Park.

Admission to all events is free.

The 1970s and ’80s tribute bands Victory Boulevard and Midnight Special will perform for free at the amphitheater between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. For more information, call (330) 392-2529.
