East Palestine plans for all-school reunion

The last all-school alumni event was three years ago.

EAST PALESTINE — The All-School Reunion is back, and organizers are counting on city residents to get the word out.

The event runs Friday through Sunday with activities throughout the community.

The All-Alumni Reunion Committee, the group coordinating the reunion, has sent out bulk mailings in the past to let alumni know about the event.

But organizers said this year, with the rising cost of postage, the committee is relying mostly on word of mouth to spread the news.

“We’re counting on each other to pass the word along,” said Barb Lynch, event chairwoman. “Postage and advertising have gotten so expensive. We want to put everything we can into the actual event.”

Three years have passed since the last all-school reunion in East Palestine. The event is designed to bring anyone who ever attended East Palestine High School back home for a weekend of fun and fellowship.

The first reunion was in 1993, followed by a subsequent reunion in 1994. Other reunions were in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2005, Lynch said. She noted the committee has been meeting regularly this year to organize the 2008 reunion.

In past years the gathering has taken place over the July Fourth weekend. But Lynch said this year organizers decided to set the event apart from other holiday happenings. “Everyone is welcome,” she said. “Alumni, their guests, anyone who has ever attended East Palestine High School, or anyone who’s just looking for something to do that weekend, come. Just come and have fun. Everyone’s welcome.”
