REUNIONS | Former classmates, families plan get-togethers

• The Byrd and Gidney families will host the 40th reunion of the Brown descendants, which will take place Friday through Sunday in Boardman. Among those attending will be members of the Beacham, Kirksey, Belcher, James, Ellis and Jackson families, all living in the Youngstown area. Five generations will be attending the event.

• Campbell Memorial High School Class of 1944 will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at The Elmton in Struthers. The January class and guests are welcome.

• Cardinal Mooney High School Class of 1998 has chosen Nov. 29 as the date for a 10-year class reunion. For more details about the reunion and to update your current contact information, e-mail cmhsclass1998@gmail.com.

• Chaney High School Class of 1958 will have a 50th reunion on Sept. 27 at Fonderlac Country Club in New Springfield. Also planned are a get-together Sept. 26 at the Youngstown Club and a brunch Sept. 28 at A La Cart in Canfield. • East High School January and June Classes of 1948 will have a reunion Sept. 6 at Rusty's Southside Grill. Reservations must be made by Aug. 15.

• East High School Class of 1956 reunion committee will host a 70th birthday party beginning at 5 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Catholic War Vets, 609 Steel St., Youngstown. • The 21st annual Montaguto, Italy, anniversary picnic will begin at noon Sunday at the UAW 1112 picnic area in Lordstown. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m., and included in the festivities will be a boccie tournament and morra, dancing and games. Take your own picnic basket.

• The committees representing the alumni of the former Mount Jackson High School and Bessemer High School have met to discuss the formation of the Mohawk Area Alumni Association. This year, each group will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the last classes to graduate from those high schools. Mount Jackson alumni have planned theirs for Aug. 2 at the Mohawk Elementary cafeteria. Bessemer alumni have set Sept. 6 at SNPJ for their reunion.The committees have planned the first gathering of the Mohawk-Area Alumni Association for Aug. 1, 2009, at Mohawk High School cafeteria. • The O’Conner reunion will take place Sunday at Grove City Park in Grove City, Pa., Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Take your favorite dish or dessert and a wrapped gift for bingo.

• St. Columba School Class of 1958 will have a 50th reunion at 5:15 p.m. Aug. 22 at the MVR Club, Walnut Street, Youngstown. Special guests will be the first-grade teacher, Sister Mary Lois, OSU, and the Rev. James Kolp, who was an assistant priest at the time. • A St. Dominic’s School reunion will take place Sept. 13 at the school, which is now used as the parish center. The evening will include dinner, entertainment with The Great Pretenders, and a silent auction. The cost is $30 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Dominican Sisters. The event will begin with Mass at 5 p.m. at the church, hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6 to 7 p.m., and a dinner dance will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at St. Dominic’s Priory Office 77 E.
