Woman arrested in Youngstown stabbing

staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — A city woman is charged with felonious assault after being accused of stabbing another woman outside a Kendis Circle apartment complex.

Youngstown police arrested Gwendolyn Bellard, 50, Monday after they were called to the residence on reports of a stabbing.

Witnesses told police they saw Bellard come out of the apartments swinging something and heard someone say, “She’s got a knife,” followed by, “She stabbed her.”

Officers spoke to the victim, who was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, over the phone. She told them she’d been outside during a verbal argument between others, when Bellard came outside with the knife and stabbed her.

Police also spoke to the victim’s mother, who said before Bellard came outside, a man involved in the argument pulled out a gun and threatened to kill everyone.

Police said they have not located the knife or the gun.

Bellard was in the Mahoning County jail late Monday.
