Poland 11-year-old stars defeat Clyde, 9-8


CAMBRIDGE — The Poland All-Stars defeated Clyde, 9-8, Monday, in the 11-year-old Ohio Little League state tournament.

Clyde led 2-0 in the top of the first inning before Poland scored with a RBI triple by Marty Malenic.

Poland took a 4-2 lead in the second inning, with two runs coming on a ground-rule double by Austin Wilson.

Clyde rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the third inning and extended it to 7-4 in the fourth, but Poland rallied again, closing to 7-6 with runs scored by Nick Romeo and Adam Knight, on hits by Dom Lipari and Malenic.

Poland took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run double by Jake Hawkins.

Mark Passarello got the win for Poland with 2 1‚Ñ3 innings pitched, giving up only one run.

Poland is scheduled to play Avon today.

Poland 10, Kingsville 8

Nick Romeo pitched five innings for Poland in Sunday’s game, giving up only three runs with four strikeouts.

Kingsville came up just short in a comeback effort, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Poland was led by Marty Malenic, with three hits and three runs scored. Jake Hawkins, and Kiernan Kiske each had two hits, and two RBIs.

Mark Passarello scored four runs, while Adam Knight, Dom Lipari, Austin Wilson, and Mark Passarello had hits and Logan Morse had an RBI.
