LOUIE TODAY: LaVida Local+Mafia+Music

Tune in today as Louie, Vindy.com's news radio partner, hears Mahoning County Commissioner John McNally's side of the lawsuit he filed last week against county treasurer George Tablack and Prosecutor Paul Gains over the documents McNally wants from them detailing the county's purchase of Oak Hill Renaissance Place.

Louie will also talk again with Philip Carlo, who returns with more on his childhood neighbor, Anthony “Gaspipe” Casso, who Carlo says rose from apprentice thief and killer to boss of the infamous Lucchese crime family. In his book, "The Ice Man" Carlo describes Casso as a violent teen doted on by his gangster father and mob godfather, Sally Callinbrano, schooled to kill and honor Cosa Nostra values, while living a picture-perfect marriage. The now jailed Casso also revealed tidbits about mob bosses John Gotti and Paul Castellano, Sammy “the Bull” Gravano, Hoover’s FBI, and the Russian mob.

Then relax with the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra's Harriet Tubman jazz oratorio. Bassist, composer and conductor Marcus Shelby has written all the music and lyrics of this major production, except for his orchestration of the familiar spiritual "Go Down Moses." The work features a 14-piece orchestra plus four vocalists, with Faye Carol as the voice of Harriet Tubman who Shelby says inspired him at age 8 as a black hero.
