Poland falters in long game


Canfield 10s won a first-round game while Canfield 12s are state runners-up.

CAMBRIDGE — Washington Court House defeated Poland, 7-6, in a game that lasted nine innings and took two days to complete at the Little League state (10-11-year-olds) tournament.

The game started Saturday and play was suspended after two rain delays until Sunday.

Skyler Hawk singled in Matt Jones with the go-ahead run for Washington CH.

Austin Wilson had a home run and single with two RBIs for Poland, while Marty Malenic hit a triple. Rick Svetlak added a pair of hits and an RBI, while Dom Lipari, Nick Romeo and Jake Hawkins also drove in runs.

Mark Passarello, Kiernan Kiske, and Rick Svetlak pitched for Poland, which was scheduled to play Kingsville in an elimination game Sunday night.

Canfield 10s

ASHTABULA — Canfield defeated New London in the first round of the state tournament.

Luke Kelty allowed just one hit over five innings for Canfield, which got doubles from Drew Potesta, Vincent D’Alesio and Vincent Ferrier had doubles.

Kato Kim had outstanding catches in the outfield.

Canfield plays next today at 5 p.m.

Canfield 12s

SOUTH POINT — Canfield finished as state runner-up Saturday, losing to Mount Vernon, 7-6, in the championship game.

COLT Region

STRUTHERS — Butler, Pa., scored five times in the top of the fifth to come from behind and defeat DeHaven, Pa., 7-5, to win the championship at Cene Park Sunday.

Butler advanced to the East Zone Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., starting Aug. 1.

Tony Campbell had three hits while David Schmidt, Tanner McCaw, and Buddy Rekich added two hits each for Butler. Vincent Schmidt went four innings in relief for the win, allowing one run with three strikeouts.

David Colarusso had three hits for DeHaven while Mike Ferraro went the first five innings on the mound, allowing just one run before having to leave.

Butler 8, DeHaven 2

STRUTHERS — Joey Marek went six innings allowing only one unearned run for the win, while Mason Montgomery had three hits, and Cody Montgomery added two. Tony Campbell drove in three runs. John Orr had a pair of hits for DeHaven.

East Ohio 5, Hagerstown (Md.) 1

STRUTHERS — East Ohio eliminated Hagerstown as Dan Slavik tossed a complete game five hitter with eight strikeouts. Clay Francis had a pair of hits while Levi Crozier drove home a pair of runs for East Ohio.

DeHaven 8, East Ohio 5

STRUTHERS — Haidn Lynch went the distance with three strikeouts for the win, while David Colarusso had a pair of hits and drove home three runs. David Fisher had two hits for East Ohio.

Warren AA

WARREN — Josh Fulmer and Bill Eddy both singled twice, and Adam Morgan and Mike Hanck hit doubles to lead Flex Strut over Andover Angels, 7-4, in a Warren AA League game.

Rob Martin drove in two runs for Andover.

Champion Marlins 7, Jamestown Redbirds 2

Brandon Keck singled twice and Nathan King doubled to lead Champion, whch got a complete-game five-hitter from Mark Jackson. King also had two RBIs and Joe Cvengros stole three bases.
