Orioles 5, Angels 2

BALTIMORE — Baltimore ended a run of 15 straight losses in Sunday games behind a sharp pitching performance by Garrett Olson. Olson (7-5) allowed two runs and seven hits in six-plus innings, breaking a run of eight games in which an Orioles starter failed to get through the sixth. The Angels’ Ervin Santana (11-5) gave up five runs and seven hits in five-plus innings, his shortest outing of the season.

Tigers 6, White Sox 4

DETROIT — Curtis Granderson and Marcus Thames homered as Detroit avoided a three-game sweep. Miguel Cabrera drove in two runs and Ivan Rodriguez went 4-for-4 for third-place Detroit. Jermaine Dye homered for the third straight day and A.J. Pierzynski also went deep for the White Sox, who had won four straight.

Royals 6, Rays 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Billy Butler homered and drove in four runs and Kyle Davies picked up his first victory in more than a month as Kansas City salvaged a split of the four-game series. Butler hit an RBI double in the fourth and a three-run drive off the left-field foul pole in the seventh. He has four homers and 14 RBIs in nine games since the All-Star break.

Athletics 6, Rangers 5

OAKLAND, Calif. — Jack Cust and Kurt Suzuki homered and Oakland reliever Brad Ziegler set the major league record for scoreless innings to start a career. Ziegler gave up two singles in two shutout innings to extend his scoreless streak to 27 innings. The Athletics snapped a three-game losing streak and won for the second time in 11 games.

Mariners 5, Blue Jays 1

TORONTO — Jose Vidro hit a two-run homer and Jarrod Washburn pitched eight strong innings as Seattle snapped a season-long seven-game losing streak. Toronto’s season-high five-game winning streak also ended.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Mets 9, Cardinals 1

NEW YORK — Johan Santana pitched his seventh complete game, Fernando Tatis and Ramon Castro hit two-run homers and New York pounded Kyle Lohse. Santana (9-7) allowed six hits and a walk in winning for just the second time since June 1. Lohse (12-3) allowed seven runs and 11 hits in five-plus innings, and Albert Pujols homered for the second straight day.

Cubs 9, Marlins 6

CHICAGO — Derrek Lee homered and Mike Fontenot had a pinch-hit three-run double during a four-run seventh inning for Chicago. Rookie Jeff Samardzija retired all six batters that he faced for his first save. Mike Jacobs homered twice and drove in five runs for the Marlins.

Astros 11, Brewers 6

MILWAUKEE — Geoff Blum hit a pair of home runs for Houston, including a three-run shot that capped a seven-run fifth. Blum hit both homers off Jeff Suppan (5-7), and is batting .542 (13-for-24) in his career against the right-hander. Ryan Braun connected for his 28th homer for the Brewers.

Phillies 12, Braves 10

PHILADELPHIA — Pat Burrell hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the fifth inning, and Chris Coste, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth and Jimmy Rollins also went deep for Philadelphia, which overcame a 5-0 deficit. Braves All-Star catcher Brian McCann left with a mild concussion after a collision with Victorino in the sixth inning. X-rays were negative and McCann will be re-evaluated today.

Rockies 11, Reds 0

CINCINNATI — Garrett Atkins and Jeff Baker homered, Ubaldo Jimenez turned in another terrific start and Colorado completed a three-game sweep. Chris Iannetta also homered for the Rockies.

Diamondbacks 7, Giants 2

SAN FRANCISCO — Randy Johnson tossed seven shutout innings to win his fourth straight start. Conor Jackson had three hits, including a home run for the Diamondbacks, who have won five of six to move two games over .500 for the first time since June 24.

Dodgers 2, Nationals 0

LOS ANGELES — Clayton Kershaw outpitched Jason Bergmann for his first major league victory. In a matchup of pitchers who were winless in their previous 20 starts combined, Kershaw (1-3) prevailed, allowing four hits in six-plus innings.
