Gunfire exchanged on the East Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A 20-year-old South Garland Avenue man was shot Sunday evening while riding a mini motor scooter on South Truesdale Avenue, police said. The victim said he heard gunfire as he approached Shehy Street around 8:15 p.m. One round struck his front tire and then he felt pain near his right calf and fell off the bike. The shots, fired at him by occupants of a tan of gold-colored car, continued, grazing his right ear, as he ran into a convenience store on Shehy. The suspects, possibly armed with assault rifles, pursued the victim into the store, where the clerk grabbed two pistols and opened fire, police said. The suspects fled. The victim refused medical treatment.
