910th deployed to Iraq

Thirteen members of the 910 Airlift Wing’s Security Forces Squadron left Saturday for a six-month tour of duty in Iraq to serve in several security-related duties at Kirkuk Air Base.

They are the last group of a total of 44 security forces members deploying to Iraq for this tour of duty. They recently returned from two weeks of specialized training, called Patriot Defender, at Camp Gruber, Okla.

The 910th has its headquarters at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna.

Pa. man goes overseas

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jenson J. Vancise has deployed overseas to a forward operating base to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom. Vancise, a fire and emergency services assistant chief, is normally assigned to the 15th Civil Engineer Squadron, Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii. He is the son of Ruth Vancise of Guys Mills, Pa., and Bruce Vancise of Stoneboro, Pa., and is a 1995 graduate of Titusville (Pa.) High School.

PROMOTION

New Castle man promoted

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas C. Chill, son of Kelly A. Chill and David F. Chill, both of New Castle, Pa., was promoted to his current rank while serving with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 10, Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, Calif. Chill, a 2000 graduate of New Castle Senior High School of New Castle, joined the Navy in August 2004.

VETERANS

Hall of Famer selected

YOUNGS-TOWN — Robert M. Brienik, Class of 2007 Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame member, has been named to the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame selection committee, which meets in Columbus several times a year. Since 1992, the Hall of Fame has inducted Ohio residents during the annual induction ceremony conducted the Thursday before Veterans Day in Columbus.

Brienik is active with a number of veterans organizations in the Mahoning Valley, including the Marine Corps League, AMVETS, ITAM, Korean War Veterans, American Legion and the United Veterans Council. He also participates in several nonmilitary organizations, including the Allan Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Crime Clinic of Greater Youngstown.

He has been a volunteer with the Department of Veterans Affairs Youngstown Outpatient Clinic and Brecksville VA Hospital since 1992, and is the volunteer liaison for the Youngstown, East Liverpool, Warren and Lorain clinics and a number of Veteran Honor Guards units serving locally and at the Ohio Western Reserve VA National Cemetery in Rittman.
