Twins’ carnival will raise funds for classmate

staff report

STRUTHERS — People looking for something fun to do Saturday can also help a local girl lead a happier life.

Kara and Alex Thompson, 11-year-old twins from Poland Township, will have a carnival at their home at 2427 Knollwood Ave. from 2 to 5 p.m.

The carnival will help raise money for the Thompsons’ neighbor and Struthers Middle School classmate Sarah Williams, 12. Sara suffers from leukodystrophy, a rare, progressive, metabolic, genetic disease that affects the brain, spinal cord and often the peripheral nerves.

Money raised will be used to buy a special swing for Sarah, which can be added to her standard swing set. The swing offers additional support for her head, neck and back.

Kara came up with the idea and told her brother, said Vicki Thompson, the twins’ mother.

“That’s just the type of child she is, she’s always thinking about other people,” Thompson said.

The carnival will feature games, a talent show, a Sarah Williams trivia game, a bake sale and refreshments.
