The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival opens at 4 p.m. on the church grounds at Via Mount Carmel for four days of food, music and activities. The giant ethnic festival, which drew more than 10,000 people last year, includes international entertainers such as Jay and Gisele, a duo from Australia.
“Glengarry Glen Ross,” a harrowing portrait of darkness set in an office of cut-throat salesmen, is one of playwright David Mamet’s signature works. It’s also one of the finest pieces of theater you’ll see on a local stage this year. The Foo Fighters, arguably the biggest rock act of the past year, comes to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland at 7:30 p.m. (and Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh at the same time Saturday). Check Ticketmaster.
Youngstown Rocks the Arts, a festival sponsored by Art Youngstown and Royal Oaks bar, will feature psychics, tattoo artists, live music and dance, and of course, plenty of art. Chris Yambar, the “Simpsons” pop artist with a studio in Youngstown, will be there, handing out free comic books to the first 500 children. The event starts at 3 p.m. on Front Street between Champion and Walnut streets.
Get a little mud on your tires at the Truck and Jeep Fest, which starts at 8 a.m. and runs all day (and Sunday) at the Canfield Fairgrounds. Monster trucks, mud pits, rock crawls and a merchandise market are on the schedule.
The first Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival parade begins at 3 p.m., with 75 units. It will begin at Fifth Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, run south on Fifth to West Wood Street, where it will turn left and go past St. Columba Cathedral. Then it will turn left and go up Wick Avenue to Rayen Avenue, where it will turn right and complete its final leg to the festival grounds on Via Mount Carmel.
Rock’n’roll supergroup The Police, who came to Cleveland on the first leg of the reunion tour, makes a stop at Pittsburgh’s Post-Gazette Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. Monday, with none other than Elvis Costello and the Imposters as the opening act. And the next night, the Vans Warped Tour is at the venue. Check Ticketmaster for tickets to both shows.k
