Board fails to pick gas-well drilling company

Staff REPORT

LIBERTY — The Liberty school board did not decide which gas-well drilling company it will use, despite having a special meeting on the subject Wednesday.

Since April, the board has been discussing plans for a gas well to be drilled on Liberty schools property.

The drilling will be done behind the stadium, said Treasurer Tracey Obermiyer. Only one well is being considered at this time.

Obermiyer said the school doesn’t have any known date for when drilling could begin, because the company they choose will give them a time frame.

The next board meeting is Aug. 12, and board members hope to have a final decision by that date.

For now, they are looking to pursue further information before deliberation of the candidates can come to a close.

If no decision is made by Aug. 12, they will schedule a special meeting shortly after that date to finish the deal.
