Astro drops 9ers in 10th inning to advance to NABF World Series
In the senior tournament, the Brownlee Lookouts scored twice in the ninth to break a 3-3 tie and beat R&J Trucking.
STRUTHERS — Raul Pizzaro’s two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored the winning run as the Astro Falcons defeated Andy’s 9ers 11-10 to win the NABF Junior Regional Tournament at Cene Park Monday night.
The Astros advanced to the NABF World Series in Northville, Mich., starting Thursday.
Andy’s had made the final by defeating the Columbus Big Katz 6-5 in nine innings, while the Astros had knocked out Rondinelli 8-7.
In the championship game Astros came from four runs behind in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
John Beatty, Boyd, Mike Natale, Joey Fontana had two hits each for the Astros while Brian Hess, Bryan Miller, Eric Mathews, and Jake Santana had two hits each for Andy’s.
NABF Senior Regional
STRUTHERS — The Brownlee Lookouts scored two times in the top of the ninth inning to defeat R&J Trucking 5-3 and win the NABF Senior Regional at Cene Park Monday.
A bases-loaded walk to Ryan Mace plated the go ahead run with the other scoring on a single by Ronny Stout.
Brownlee had only five hits in the game and used three errors by R&J in the fifth inning to score three times to tie the game. All three runs in the fifth were unearned.
Nick Baiamonte allowed only two hits in the first four innings for R&J, before the three-run fifth.
Brad Byers came on and got the final out in the fifth, and retired the side in order in the next three frames before giving up a lead-off double to River McWilliams to start the ninth. McWilliams scored the go-ahead run making Byers the losing pitcher.
The Lookouts will play in the NABF Senior World Series in Jackson, Miss., starting July 30.

SOUTH POINT — Canfield’s 12-year-old baseball team was scheduled to play Tuesday night against Mount Vernon in a winner’s bracket game, but repeated phone calls and e-mails to league and team officials did not reveal a result.
