Who’s richer, who’s poorer?
Who’s richer, who’s poorer?

Once again, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It seems the Liberty Township executives don’t care about the little people as I call them. We have no choice on what goes on in the township. They don’t care about the hardships of people. If they did they would have tried to get a better payment system in the one garbage pick up in the township. We who live on that limited income have no choice but to go along with what they want. We have two choices pertaining to the garbage pick up. We can buy garbage bags from this company at 10 bags for $20. Thus, we receive no billing. In this bag it can only contain garbage without any other garbage bags in it. Put it out the night before and raccoons and dogs will have a circus. Or we can pay $15.43 per month, which is more than I now pay.
The new company will charge for anything extra they pick up from you. This old company does not; just call and let them know you will have an additional pick up. The bags sound like a cheaper way and may be for some, but if you think about it, in the long run it is more costly. If you put out two bags or more a week, your 10 bags are gone and you have to buy another set of bags. That can add up to almost $20 a month or more.
Oh, we also get a can for recycling use. That is free. We will have two trucks for pick up, one for garbage and one for the recycling can. The recycling can can be put out when it is full. In the meantime the trucks still come up and down your road looking for cans. This is a saving? I live on a dead end road and it has not been repaved since it was paved (patched, yes). That means these trucks will be coming up my road to pick up garbage, then back all the way down the road. Then the truck will also come up the road later to pick up the recycling cans and back all the way down. There is no turn around on our road. It is barely a two-way street. If some of these executives would ride around and take in the whole township, they will see there are a lot of improvements left to be done. I consider this section of the township the forgotten part.

Less money, more costs
EDITOR:
A few weeks ago the Youngstown school board received the estimate for the new Wilson Middle School that will become the Athena and the Alpha schools for the gender based education. It will be a plus for the school system to house both schools in one building but after seeing the cost of the new school, the board decided to put on the November ballot a levy to help the school system get out of debt.
This would not be a problem if it had not been for the fact that the members of the school board added almost $3 million to the cost of the new school. The add-ons will have to be paid for by the school system and the people of Youngstown and not the state which is paying 80 percent of the cost of the building. This comes on the heels of the school board saying it cannot get out of debt with cuts alone. This shows that the school board has no idea what they are doing with the money the taxpayers are giving them and that they are not acting responsibly.
If the school board feels it has the money to add $3 million to the cost of a single school then why do we need to have a levy on the fall ballot? If the school system is that hard up for cash then they should be trying to cut the cost of the building program instead of making it bigger.
