Stabbing in Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — Steve Simpson of Garfield Street was arrested and charged with felonious assault after an incident in which Zina Wright was stabbed.

Officers responded to a call on Garfield Street and found Wright on the front porch of the home bleeding from the left side of her chest.

Wright told police Simpson, who was walking down the street, had stabbed her. Police apprehended Simpson, who said Wright was playing with a steak knife and he was trying to take it from her.

Upon release, Simpson will be taken to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department.

Wright was taken into the operating room at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mandatory sick leave

BOARDMAN — The Regional Chamber will host a luncheon event at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn to inform the public of efforts being made to pass mandated paid sick leave in Ohio in November and why it believes such passage is likely to stifle the business community.

Tony Fiore, director of Labor & Human Resources for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, will give a presentation on the proposal.

If passed, the law would require Ohio businesses with more than 25 employees to provide seven days of paid sick leave a year for full-time employees.
