Fueler injured

LEXINGTON, Ohio — The fueler for De Ferran Motorsports was injured Saturday in a pit fire during the American Le Mans Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Keith Jones was transported by helicopter to a Columbus hospital after being treated for unspecified burns while sitting on pit lane after the incident.

Jones, wearing an oxygen mask, waved to the crowd as he was lifted into the ambulance for the ride to the helicopter pad.

The new team, headed by two-time CART champion Gil de Ferran, was racing for only the second time. De Ferran, who came out of a two-year retirement to start the team, won the pole and started the race, but teammate Simon Pagenaud was at the wheel when the team’s Acura ARX-01B pulled away after a stop with the fuel hose still attached to the car.

California horse racing to ban steroids

DEL MAR, Calif. — The California Horse Racing Board has unanimously adopted a regulation that effectively bans anabolic steroids in horses running in the state, paving the way for the Breeders’ Cup to be run steroid-free this fall at Santa Anita.

The board moved the anabolic steroids testosterone, boldenone, nandrolone, and stanozolol into a higher classification, so that now, without exception, any steroid violation will result in the disqualification of the horse.

Under new penalties, violations could result in a minimum 30-day suspension.

Hester and Tribble both agreed to four-year contracts. Hester, a running back from LSU, was picked in the third round. Tribble, a cornerback from Boston College, was chosen in the sixth round.
