Rondinelli Tuxedo reaches semis with 10-3 thumping of Livi Steel


STRUTHERS — Rondinelli Tuxedo clinched a spot in today’s semifinals of the NABF Junior regional tournament by defeating Livi Steel, 10-3.

Today on Cene 1, Rondinelli plays Astro Falcons at 12:30 p.m. while Columbus Big Katz will be facing Andy’s 9ers on Cene 2.

Katz and Astros both finished 3-1 in pool play, but Katz prevailed per NABF rules.

Rondinelli won Pool A while Astro finished second in Pool B. Katz won Pool B while Andys 9ers was A runner-up.

The championship game is at 3 p.m. The winner advances to the NABF Junior World Series in Northville, Mich., starting July 24.

NABF Junior Regional

Rondinelli 10, Livi Steel 3

STRUTHERS — Anthony Raschilla had two hits, including his sixth double of the tournament, while Joe Aulizia had three hits. Both drove home two runs. Jake Double and Phil Lipari had two hits each in support of the pitching of Bo Slemons, who allowed two earned runs in six innings. Will Frazier had a single and a double for Livi.

Big Katz 8, Astros 4

The Columbus Big Katz defeated the Astro Falcons 8-4 to move to 3-0. Mike Eckstein, Taylor Emody and Kyle Jeffries had two hits each with Emody and Jeffries driving home a pair of runs each for the winners.

Austin Miller went the first 42‚Ñ3 innings, allowing no earned runs with Colt Meier picking up the save. Brock McGivern had two hits for the Astro Falcons who ended pool play at 3-1.

Livi Steel 17, Kinect Capitals 4

Livi Steel finished the tournament at 2-2 with a win over Kinect Capitals, who lost all four games in the event. Kevin Preece had three hits, including a triple and a double with four RBIs while Justin Vrabel drove home three with his three hits. Dante Lewis had three runs batted in for the winners. Mike Gatta went five innings on the mound for the win.

NABF Senior Regional

Rondinelli 3, Astro Falcons 2

STRUTHERS — Todd Kibby tripled, and scored the go-ahead run on Ben Bechtol’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning for Rondinelli in the winner’s bracket.

Drew Fitzpatrick had two hits while Cory Nesbitt went the first 62‚Ñ3 innings with five strikeouts for the win. Robert Franks got the final out for the save. Ryan Rovnak had two hits while Pat Mulligan struck out eight in going the distance in defeat on the mound for the Astro Falcons.

R&J Trucking 14, Ohio Yankees 4

R J Trucking used a 16-hit attack to eliminate the Ohio Yankees. Ross Revella had three hits while Mike Popio and Matt Durkin added two each with three RBIs for the winners. John Madeline also had a pair of singles. Pat O’Brien went the distance for the win with five strikeouts.

Brownlee Lookouts 5, R J Trucking 0

STRUTHERS — Ryan Lavery tossed a three-hit shutout for Brownlee in the opening round of the NABF Senior Regional on Friday at Cene Park.

Lavery had seven strikeouts and walked only one while River McWilliam had three hits for the winners. Joe Strawinski went the first 31‚Ñ3 innings allowing three runs and suffered the loss.

Astro Falcons 4, Ohio Yankees 3

STRUTHERS — Down to their last strike, Astro’s Mark Lapikas drove home two runs with a triple to tie the game, then scored the winning run on a balk.

Ryan Rovnak, Trent Vallinger, Shane Wagner, T.J. Rosenberg and Lapikas each had two hits for the winners. Jared Turocy pitched the first five innings with five strikeouts. Mike Fox had two hits for Ohio while Issac Charette went the distance in defeat with 10 strikeouts.

LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL 11-year-olds

Canfield defeated Poland 9-2 to set up a championship game rematch tonight at 8 at Canfield.

Class AA Roth Bros. 4, Yo. Metros 3

YOUNGSTOWN — Jonathan Habuda’s single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning knocked in Dan Bertolini with the winning run in Class AA League action at P0emberton-Donnell Park.

Bertolini started the inning by doubling and Mike Sikorski’s sacrifice bunt advanced Bertolini, who finished the game with two hits. Ray Jaminet added a double and single, while Eric Jones provided two singles.

Habuda pitched the first seven innings before Dave Yost relieved for an inning and got credit for the victory.

Anthony Porter’s double and two singles and Armani Johnson’s triple and single paced Metros. Losing pitcher Corey Vukovic struck out six over eight innings.

WARREN AA LEAGUE Angels 19, Cleats 6

WARREN — Andover had 17 hits in the win. Cleats (10-13) had nine hits, but struggled through five pitchers in six innings.

T.J. Trevis, Andrew Beachy and Mike Swoboda had two hits for Cleats. Both of Swoboda’s hits were doubles.

Andover was led by Jim Knight and Alex Bielik, both of whom doubled.

Angels 11, Predators 8

WARREN — In the top of the 10th, the Angels had a walk and three base hits, one of which batted in the first of three runs. A second run scored on a wild pitch, while the third was batted in by a base hit by Rich DiBell.

Knights 3, Marlins 2

WARREN — Scoreless for five and a half innings, Mahoning Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
