CANFIELD — Dennis Martin of Canfield will host two book signings to promote his new book, “Celubrious: A Celebration of Life,” in which he shares daily doses of inspiration and motivation

The first is set for Saturday at Barnes Noble Book store, 381 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, and the second will be held Aug. 9 at Waldenbooks in the Eastwood Mall in Niles. Both events run from 2 to 4 p.m.

A 1959 graduate of East High School, Martin attended Youngstown State University and earned a degree from the University of San Francisco. His active employment ended with General Electric. A retired Navy chief, he is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion member at Post 472 in Youngstown. He attends Canfield Christian Church.

Writing workshop

YOUNGSTOWN — Pig Iron Literary & Art Works will hold its monthly Work in Process creative writing workshop Wednesday at Pig Iron Press, 26 N. Phelps St.

Bill Russell writing book about coach Red Auerbach

NEW YORK — Basketball great Bill Russell is working on a memoir about his friendship with the late Red Auerbach, the Boston Celtics coach for whom he starred on a long run of championship teams.

“Red and Me” will be published by HarperCollins in Spring 2009.

Russell, 74, was the center and competitive heart for the great Celtic teams of the 1950s and 1960s, when other players included Bob Cousy, John Havlicek and Sam Jones.
