Ridge man runs away from hospital after arrest

AUSTINTOWN — Township police responded to a disorderly conduct call Wednesday night and arrested a Mineral Ridge man — but he later fled when taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

A police report says charges are pending against the 40-year-old, with possible addresses on Rosalyn Drive or Yorktown Lane, Austintown. He threw a glass at a female bartender at Rumors Lounge on Meridian Road before going outside and lying down on the parking lot, the report notes.

Police officers arrived and noticed a plastic bag of white powder sticking out from the man’s pocket. When questioned about it, he refused to answer or get off the ground. Once police arrested him, the officers confiscated the bag, which they say was suspected cocaine, a knife, $995 and an ignition key to a Lincoln Town Car that was not registered in his name.

During the search of the car, police found $400 stuffed in a pill bottle, and suspected prescription pain relievers underneath the money.

Police repeatedly asked the man to get in the back of the police car. When he refused, an officer delivered three strikes to the suspect’s knee. On the third strike, he got in the cruiser.

After he complained of being beaten up by other bar patrons, police called an ambulance. Even though paramedics found no injuries, he insisted that he had to go to the hospital and was released by police to go to St. Elizabeth’s. When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, he fled on foot down Belmont Avenue without receiving any treatment.
