McDONALD COUNCIL |Agenda
Meeting Thursday, village officials handled these matters:
Swore in B.J. Farr to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman Jim Jones, who resigned June 30 for personal reasons after having served about 12 years. Farr was a councilman in the early 1990s and most recently until last December, and will finish Jones’ term, which ends in December 2009. His duties will include heading council’s safety and finance committees and being part of an ad hoc committee to hire a permanent law director to replace Atty. William Roux, who died June 10 of cancer. Atty. Doug Ross is serving as interim solicitor.
Appointed patrolman Dan Superak to full-time, and Matt Jamison and Ryan Ronghi as part-time officers with the McDonald Police Department. Superak will start at $12.53 per hour, and the three will bring the number of officers on the force to 12, Chief Lou Ronghi noted. Ryan Ronghi is the chief’s son.
Learned that Chief Ronghi plans to meet next week with Superintendent Michael Wasser to look at a plan to alleviate chronic parking and traffic problems at and near Roosevelt Elementary and McDonald High schools. In a related move, officials passed an emergency ordinance to amend traffic patterns around the schools.
Heard an update on the 2008 Roadway Improvement Project, which will see paving getting under way Monday and Tuesday on Oregon, Texas and Florida avenues as well as Eighth Street, noted Thomas Domitrovich, village administrator. The work should not affect garbage pickups, which take place on Wednesdays, he added. Domitrovich also announced that residents can have up to four scrap tires removed as part of curbside pickups July 28 and Aug. 4; tires also can be dropped off between July 28 and Aug. 11 at the road department, he continued. Residents can call Domitrovich at the administration building, (330) 530-5472, for more information.
Received information about the Village Youth Triathlon, set for Aug. 14 for youngsters 13 and under. The event will start at the McDonald High School swimming pool and cost $3 per participant. Those interested need to pre-register by Aug. 8 at the municipal building, 451 Ohio Ave.
