The Our Lady of Mount Carmel church festival, at 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, runs throughout the weekend, with fireworks at 11 p.m. Sunday to close the event. Live music, Italian food and amusement rides mark this annual festival.

Party on the Plaza gets started in the early evening outside the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in downtown Youngstown. The HouseBand and The Kellys will perform starting at 8 p.m.

It’s opening night at two area community theaters. “Glengarry Glen Ross,” master playwright David Mamet’s tour de force, is on the Youngstown Playhouse stage this weekend, while “South Pacific,” the Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpiece, opens at New Castle Playhouse. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. Sunday) for “Glengarry”; and 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. Sunday) for “South Pacific.” Youngstown Playhouse is at 600 Playhouse Lane, off Glenwood Avenue. New Castle Playhouse is at 212 E. Long Ave., New Castle, Pa.

j“Seussical: The Musical” continues this weekend at Kent-Trumbull Theatre, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Champion, with performances at 8 tonight and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Pig Iron Literary and Art Works street fair begins at 10 a.m. on Phelps Street, downtown Youngstown, and features a full day of art, music and poetry.

The Breeze Way, an indie-folky trio of Salem natives that has relocated to Nashville, returns to the area. The act will open for the ever-popular Red Wanting Blue at The Cellar, 162 S. Bridge St., Struthers. Call (330) 750-0199.

Point Zero 8 is a party band out of Conneaut that will lead the mayhem at The Palms, Route 618 near Conneaut Lake, Pa. (It’s also the level of blood-alcohol that can get you a DWI.) Expect party music, a wet T-shirt contest and Breathalyzer games. There is a $4 cover charge. Call (814) 382-3625.

jMagic Storm, an evening of comedy and magic, begins at 7 p.m. in the Clock Tower Building of the Kent State-Trumbull Campus, Champion. The show’s stars, Eric Thompson and Steve Simpson, will recreate Houdini’s famous “metamorphosis” illusion. Tickets are $20 and $15; call (330) 506-0114.
