The Our Lady of Mount Carmel church festival, at 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, runs throughout the weekend, with fireworks at 11 p.m. Sunday to close the event. Live music, Italian food and amusement rides mark this annual festival.
Party on the Plaza gets started in the early evening outside the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in downtown Youngstown. The HouseBand and The Kellys will perform starting at 8 p.m.
It’s opening night at two area community theaters. “Glengarry Glen Ross,” master playwright David Mamet’s tour de force, is on the Youngstown Playhouse stage this weekend, while “South Pacific,” the Rodgers and Hammerstein masterpiece, opens at New Castle Playhouse. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. Sunday) for “Glengarry”; and 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. Sunday) for “South Pacific.” Youngstown Playhouse is at 600 Playhouse Lane, off Glenwood Avenue. The Pig Iron Literary and Art Works street fair begins at 10 a.m. on Phelps Street, downtown Youngstown, and features a full day of art, music and poetry.
