MERCER, Pa. — The Mercer County Historical Society has special events scheduled for Victorian Days in Mercer on Saturday and Sunday. Victorian Days is a celebration of the heritage of the Mercer County seat.

The historical society, 119 S. Pitt St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday with some special exhibits. Events include an Underground Railroad walking tour at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Greg Acker’s display of his antique phonographs in the Helen Black Miller Chapel both days. The Western Pennsylvania Civil War Re-enactors Society will be encamped in the society’s backyard the entire weekend.

A used-book sale will take place during business hours and free lemonade will be available on the society’s front lawn. Guided tours of the society’s museum will be at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call the society at (724) 662-3490.

Two charged with theft

BELOIT — Two Salem men were charged with felony theft after Goshen police officers say they took several tools from a truck in the driveway of a Third Street home in Beloit. After responding to a call about the theft, police said they stopped a pickup truck on Fairview Avenue. Stolen items were found inside the vehicle, police said.

Those charged with felony theft are Shawn Carver, 23, and Joseph Lanham, 21, both of Southeast Boulevard in Salem. Both have been previously charged with similar offenses, according to the Goshen Police District, which patrols Beloit.

Bike run to aid charities

YOUNGSTOWN — The Brothers of Soul has scheduled a bike run for charity that will leave from the McGuffey Mall, 771 Garland Ave., at noon Saturday.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the fee will be $10 per bike and $5 for a passenger.

Proceeds will benefit Planned Parenthood of Youngstown, the National Stroke Foundation at St. Elizabeth Health Center, stroke victims and AIDS/HIV awareness.

Real estate taxes due

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County’s property owners should receive their second-half real estate tax bills in the mail no later than Monday, the county treasurer’s office has announced. The deadline to pay without penalty is Aug. 8.

Payments are accepted by mail; in person at the county treasurer’s office, 120 Market St., from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; or online by check or credit card. The Web site is treasurer.mahoningcountyoh.gov.
