KEY ARRESTS
Operation FALCON
Here is a summary of three key arrests made in connection with the one-week U.S. Marshals Operation FALCON sweep for fugitives from justice in the Warren-Youngstown area:
June 23: Toriano Phillips, wanted on a federal indictment on four counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, was spotted standing in the driveway of his Warren home when members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrived looking for him. He was caught after a short foot chase, and 3.4 ounces of cocaine he threw away during the chase, as well as $3,500 in cash he was carrying, were recovered. He was charged with an additional count of cocaine possession.
June 24: Fugitive Timothy Anderson, wanted for the armed robbery of a Warren elementary school, was arrested in Henderson, Nev., by U.S. Marshals deputies. Anderson is accused of entering the school with a handgun and robbing the cashier handling school registration receipts. Information on his whereabouts was developed by Warren members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. The robbery occurred not long after Anderson, whose criminal history includes aggravated robbery as a juvenile, was released from a juvenile detention center where he was serving a four-year sentence.
June 25: William Karpenko, already sought by Warren police for a drug offense, was arrested at an apartment in Girard that he and three other men were taking over to manufacture drugs. A Girard member of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force developed information in the case, and task force members arrested Karpenko, Brandon Brown, Michael Hollenbough and Marcus Rutledge at the apartment. All four were charged with first-degree felony possession of cocaine. Officers found 4.3 ounces of recently cooked crack cocaine and $2,800 in cash.
