Bureau of workers’ comp targets firms that owe
COLUMBUS — Ohio businesses that aren’t paying insurance bills to cover injured workers can expect a visit from the state.
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation said Wednesday that it is creating a compliance unit to pursue businesses with lapsed workers’ compensation bills. The highest priority will go to those who owe more than $10,000 in back premiums and penalties. About 5,540 Ohio employers fall into that category, owing an estimated $235 million collectively to the state.

FBI investigates IndyMac on fraud allegations
WASHINGTON — Now-defunct IndyMac Bancorp Inc. is under investigation by the FBI for possible fraud in connection with home loans made to risky borrowers, The Associated Press has learned.
It was not immediately clear how long the FBI’s probe of the bank has been ongoing.
The investigation is focused on the company — which was taken over last Friday by the FDIC — and not individuals who ran it, a law enforcement official said Wednesday.
