Teachers forum to target marketable skills
STAFF REPORT
YOUNGSTOWN— Business leaders will talk to science and technology teachers during an open forum about skills their students need to find jobs in the local employment market.
V M Star is hosting the forum at 3 p.m. Thursday at its headquarters, 2669 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., for 36 Ohio and Pennsylvania teachers who are attending the 2008 American Society for Metals Materials Camp.
The camp, which began Monday and continues through Friday at Youngstown State University, is a science and technology workshop sponsored by YSU’s Center for Transportation and Materials Engineering and The Industrial Information Institute for Education Inc.
Julie Michael Smith, chief development officer for the Youngstown Business Incubator, said the forum provides opportunity for those in the industry to talk with educators and teach them to shape curriculum content.
“This will help to make sure students are being focused on those particular sub matters,” she said. “And it will allow for relationships to form between the industry and the educators.”
The program is free, but reservations are required. For more information, contact Julie Michael Smith at (330) 259-7644.
