Tallmadge blanks Poland

KENTON — The Poland 12-year-old All-Star softball team lost to Tallmadge, 2-0, Tuesday in the winner’s bracket final of the state Little League tournament.

Taylor Miokovic pitched five innings for Poland, giving up two hits and striking out five with three walks.

Brenna Gebhardt, Meredith Tesone and Anna Barnhart had hits.

Today at 10 a.m., Poland will play Conneaut in the loser’s bracket final. The winner of that game will play Tallmadge for the state crown.

Other team members are Jessica Rutana, Phoebe Bush, Chloe Bush, Leah Howard, Brielle Nocera, Bridget Bobby, Amanda Kabetso, Kayli Jack and Megan Katchmer.

Manager Dave Howard’s coaches are Zel Bush, Ron Miokovic and Chris Tesone.

In a 9-10 district game, Poland defeated Lakeview, 13-3.

In an 11-year-old baseball game, Canfield defeated Campbell, 14-2, and Austintown defeated Boardman East, 5-3.

In a 9-10 game, Poland outslugged Boardman, 21-18.
