Man severely burned in New Castle fire
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man was severely burned in a house fire this morning in Union Township, said township Fire Chief Steve Stasko.
The 23-year-old man suffered burns of more than 80 percent of his body in the 1:15 a.m. fire, which heavily damaged the living room and kitchen of the small, single-story house, Stasko said.
Stasko said he isn’t positive of the house’s address, but the structure was at Smithfield and Division streets. He said the only information the man was able to give was his age and whether there was anyone else in the house. There wasn’t. He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Stasko said a state police fire marshal, who was not immediately available for comment, is still investigating.
New Castle and Mahoning Township fire departments also responded.
