REQUIREMENTS

Be a pilot

The Federal Aviation Administration requires:

Pilots must be a least age 16 to fly without a certified instructor.

Candidates for a private pilot’s license must be at least 17 to take the written knowledge and practical tests.

Candidates have to speak English, be a U.S. citizen, pass a medical exam and meet other security requirements.
