4 arrests at checkpoint

AUSTINTOWN A sobriety checkpoint on state Route 46 on Saturday night resulted in four arrests on charges of operating a vehicle impaired.

Of the 878 cars that went through the checkpoint, 590 were checked. In addition to the four OVI arrests, one arrest was made on charges of drug abuse (marijuana) and one felony arrest of drug abuse (cocaine). The drugs were found in duffel bags after officers were alerted by the K-9 drug dog.

Meeting time changed

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Board of Education has changed its regular meeting from 7 p.m. Wednesday at the high school library to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Middle School library.

Life Poker Run planned

WARREN — The 5th annual Life Poker Run to benefit the American Cancer Society will be Sunday at the Power House Bar Grill, 999 Mahoning Ave.

Registration is at 11 a.m. and motorcycles will leave at noon rain or shine and return by 5 p.m. The cost is $10, which includes a meal. Pre-registration will be from 6 to 9 p.m. todayat the Power House.

Beekeepers to meet

CORTLAND — The Trumbull County Beekeepers Association will meet at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Trumbull County Agricultural Service Center, 520 W. Main St. The PBS documentary “The Silence of the Bees” will be shown.

Medical waste disposal

NEW SPRINGFIELD — Dorothy Keish, the Springfield Township recycling coordinator, announced that used diabetic syringes and lancets can be disposed of from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Mahoning County District Board of Health Lab Services, 116 Westchester Drive, Austintown.

Bike run rescheduled

EAST PALESTINE — The Charity Bike Run to benefit On Angels’ Wings originally scheduled for Sunday was postponed because of the weather.

The event, sponsored by the Youngstown Hog Group and Harley Davidson Bike Town, has been moved to Sept. 7. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at Harley Davidson Bike Town, 5700 Interstate Blvd., Austintown, with the first bike out at noon. The run will end at On Angels’ Wings, 710 state Route 170, East Palestine. Registration is $15 per bike and $15 per passenger.

On Angels’ Wings is a nonprofit, therapeutic horseback-riding organization that operates exclusively on donations to help people with disabilities. For more information about the bike run, call (330) 793-0301 or (330) 507-1450.
