Pavlik roundup \ News and notes
Web update: A revamped version of Kelly Pavlik’s Web site, www.teampavlik.com, is expected to launch Monday. The site will feature regular updates of Pavlik, along with an e-store, upcoming events, links to news stories (including the Pavlik coverage from The Vindicator), contests and blog entries from Pavlik. The current site also has Pavlik merchandise for sale, including the new T-shirts in the style of Ohio State’s block-O.
Life-sized: You can now buy a life-sized (33” by 74”) cut-out of Pavlik at www.wallhuggerz.com for $98.99. The company, which is owned by Mooney High graduate Ron Smith, was launched last month.
Leader of the pack: The International Boxing Organization recently released its July rankings and, not surprisingly, Kelly Pavlik was No. 1 among world middleweights. The organization touts the computer-generated list as the world’s “most unbiased, objective rankings of boxers.” IBF belt holder Arthur Abraham, who defeated Edison Miranda last month, is ranked second among middleweights, followed by Ricardo Mayorga, Sebastian Sylvester and WBA champ Felix Sturm, who won by unanimous decision over American Randy Griffin on July 5. Potential Pavlik opponent Paul Williams is ranked fourth among welterweights behind Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya. Gary Lockett, who was knocked out in the third round by Pavlik last month, is 81st among middleweights and former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor is ranked second in the super middleweight division behind Joe Calzaghe, who recently vacated that title.
