Long-term planning forum in Boardman
BOARDMAN — A forum targeting long-term planning for Ohioans is offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Multipurpose Room in the Community Center at Boardman Park.
The program, Own Your Future, is free to the public. It is presented by the Ohio Department of Aging, Ohio Department of Insurance, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Area Agency on Aging 11. Local and state experts will be on hand for discussion as well as to answer individual questions.
The Own Your Future campaign was launched earlier this year by Gov. Ted Strickland, and targets Ohioans between the ages of 45 and 65 to start planning now for the future need of long-term care.
The presentations will begin with an overview followed by informational tables on each of the key planning areas, which are designed to provide more in-depth information. Issues to be covered include: Healthy lifestyle planning, advance directives and role of the long-term care ombudsman’; long-term care consultations; financial planning for long-term care; long-term care Insurance and the Partnership Program; and reverse mortgages.

Breast cancer screening
YOUNGSTOWN/WARREN — The MammoVan, a mobile mammography unit, will offer breast cancer screenings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road S.E., Warren; and July 21 at the Youngstown YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave.
Financial assistance for the screening may be available for eligible women who qualify. Free transportation to appointments for mammograms, breast cancer diagnostic testing, treatment, and follow-up care at local health care providers may also be available. The service is sponsored by the YWCA’s ENCOREplus breast cancer awareness program, and the Northeast Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Red Cross training
BOARDMAN — The Center for Community Empowerment is having a Red Cross Babysitter training course exclusively for children aged 10-15 who attend Youngstown City Schools. The program is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 24 and July 31. Help Hotline assistance
YOUNGSTOWN — Help Hotline Crisis Center has received a $500 grant from the Mayor’s Community Fund of the Mahoning Valley to help make students in Youngstown City Schools aware of the agency’s 24-hour crisis suicide hotline. Help Hotline’s crisis number is (330) 747-2696.
HMHP staff remembers
YOUNGSTOWN – Staff members of all Humility of Mary Health Partners facilities are remembering the organization’s roots this month as they celebrate their annual Heritage Days.
Activities and services will be conducted throughout the 10 days beginning Monday and ending July 24. Activities range from refreshments given to staff members to staff visits with current and retired sisters who served at St. Elizabeth and St. Joseph Health Centers.
This year’s theme is “Our Enduring Legacy,” focusing on the five HM sisters who were asked to run a new hospital in Warren after working for several years at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
Heritage Days activities are scheduled for St. Elizabeth Health Center, St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, St. Joseph Health Center, Humility House, The Assumption Village and Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson. In addition, members of the HMHP mission team will be visiting all ambulatory sites for a program and refreshments.
Beatitude House grant
YOUNGSTOWN — Beatitude House has received $5,000 grant from The Aimee and Lulu Seidel Foundation to support The Potter’s Wheel, their education and career preparation program located on the west side of Youngstown. It provides participants with the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to find employment or continue post secondary education.
