Historical society sets Victorian weekend

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer County Historical Society, 119 S. Pitt St., invites the public to participate in special Victorian Days activities and events scheduled for July 19 and 20 in celebration of the heritage of the Mercer County seat.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with guided tours available at 11:30, 12:30 and 1:30, and will open from noon to 3 Sunday with tours at 12:30 and 1:30.

Among the special events both days are a used book sale and free lemonade on the front lawn (weather permitting), a display of antique phonographs by Greg Acker in the Helen Black Miller Chapel, and a walking tour of an underground railroad at 3 p.m.

Western Pennsylvania Civil War Re-enactors Society will conduct an encampment during Victorian Days on the back lawn of the museum.

Links chapter inducts two new members

WARREN — Youngstown Chapter of the Links Inc. inducted two new members June 14 at the Avalon Golf and Country Club.

Dr. Robin Edwards and Dr. Ruth Quarles joined the chapter.

President Anne R. Cobbin conducted the ceremony, which concluded with the lighting of candles.

After the ceremony, Dr. Edwards, an OB/GYN, and Dr. Quarles, an internal medicine specialist, attended a luncheon in their honor. Link Krishmu Shipmon, vice president and membership chairman, coordinated the luncheon.

A more formal introduction of the new members will be made during the annual gift-giving luncheon in December.
