Falcons, Simon, Livi win openers
Dave Sugar Excavating lost its debut in the Ohio State Connie Mack Tournament.
STRUTHERS — Livi Steel of the Class B League opened the 46th Ohio State Connie Mack Baseball Tournament with an impressive start Saturday by posting a 6-3 victory over Fairborn Post 526 at Cene Park.
Ross Lopez, Dan Perkins and Garrett Herald had two hits apiece for Livi, with Herald also driving in three runs. Jim McCunnell worked six innings with four strikeouts for the win. Zach McGee tossed the seventh for the save.
Matt Addis had three hits while Garrett Copas had two for Fairborn.
Simon Roofing 10, Andy’s 9ers Blue 2
STRUTHERS — Simon Roofing used a pair of four-run innings to power past Andy’s 9ers.
Rick Summers and Joe Sekula collected two hits apiece while Cory Johnson drove home a pair of runs with a double in the first inning.
Robert Franks scattered four hits and struck out six in going the five innings for the win.
Astro Falcons 13, Ohio Thunder 2
STRUTHERS — The Astro Falcons scored in four of five innings against the Ohio Thunder.
Philip Woods hit three singles while Ryan Rovnak and T.J. Rosenberg each had two hits for the Falcons. Rosenberg and Trent Vallinger drove in three runs apiece.
Jared Turocy pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts to pick up the win.
Matt Wallin hit a pair of singles and Matt Fuller a two-run double for the Thunder.
PB Baseball 5, Dave Sugar Excavating 4
STRUTHERS — Trevor Smith’s one-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove home PB Baseball’s winning run.
Scott Hanicak of Dave Sugar Excavating hit a bases-loaded triple to tie the game 4-4 in the seventh.
Kyle Storm, Brad Clement, Sam Tracaso and Trevor Smith each had two hits for the winners. Relief pitcher Eddie Butler worked out a jam in the seventh to pick up the win.
Youngtown Class AA
Andover 3, Youngstown Metros 2
YOUNGSTOWN — The Metros took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Andover scored the deciding two runs in the top of the third and held on for the victory at Pemberton Park.
Joe Iacobucci hit three singles for Youngstown. Dawson Knight hit a pair of singles for the winners and Adam Miller tripled.
Tri State Collegiate
Allegheny 4-10, Metros 0-8
YOUNGSTOWN — Allegheny’s Jason Steen pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts to pick up the win in the first game. Jack Schellage and D.J. Cannon each doubled.
The second game was tied 5-5 and 8-8, but Allegheny scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a triple by Kyle Smith, a walk, a stolen base and a double by Pat Gannon.
Armani Johnson hit three singles, drove in three runs and scored three times for the Metros.
Josh Hungerman and Gannon hit a double and single apiece for Allegheny.
