YOUNGSTOWN — The fairways at Youngstown Country Club have been reserved for Aug. 11 for the 10th annual Tri-County Golf Classic fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
The four-person scramble will be limited to 32 teams. Each team may choose from three flights, depending on the golfer with the lowest index average. The cost for the entire day will be $5,000 per team.
Activities are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with registration and a chipping contest, and lunch will be from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Play will get under way with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and will include a longest drive contest. Following the 18-hole event, there will be a dinner and an awards ceremony.
Each golfer will receive a pair of FootJoy golf shoes, a FootJoy golf glove, a Ping golf shirt, a golf hat, a dozen roses and a bottle of wine.
The purpose
Proceeds from the outing will be used to help in the battle to cure cancer. Last year’s golf classic netted $162,000, the largest amount raised since the event was initiated nine years ago. Overall, the tournaments have raised $985,000 for the American Cancer Society to further cancer research, education, advocacy and services to cancer patients and families.
Sponsors are Home Savings and Loan Co. and Butler Wick Corp.
Craig Olson of Olfield Graphics is serving as chairman for the event, and honorary chairmen are four brothers, Dave, Mike, Pat and Tom Pavlansky. Greg Krieger of Option Care and Buzz Pishkur of Aqua America Inc. are vice chairmen. This year’s honoree is Mike Fagert.
