‘Mowathon’ to tackle overgrown lawns

LIMA, Ohio (AP) — A businesswoman is organizing a mowing marathon in her Ohio neighborhood, where foreclosures and absentee landlords have made out-of-control lawns a problem.

Kathy Lewis says the grass and weeds “mowathon” scheduled for later this month in Lima was inspired by her city councilman, who wanted to make an overgrown lawn a misdemeanor offense.

Lewis says it’s better to have less government and get people out taking care of their neighbors.

So, those who want to join in the large-scale lawn-cutting are being instructed to bring their mower to a meeting point Saturday.

Fuel will be provided for gas-powered mowers.

Lima is located in western Ohio, north of Dayton and southwest of Toledo.
