July 12, 1933: Thousands of Youngstown steelworkers are anticipating promotions to better jobs in the plants when a 42-hour work week goes into effect, replacing 48- and 60-hour weeks. About 8,000 men will have to be added to the work forces in Youngstown district mills.
A large percentage of the 200 men employed at Bessemer Limestone and Cement Co. will receive raises as the minimum wage a the plant is increased from 27 cents an hour to 32.
