Thirteen local Air Force reservists on their way to Iraq

VIENNA — Thirteen local Air Force reservists were deployed to Iraq today for a six-month tour of duty.

The specialists are part of the 910th Security Forces Squadron and will serve in security related duties at Kirkuk Air Base. The squadron is based at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna.

It recently has been involved in training opportunities to prepare for the high-threat environment, including two weeks of training at Camp Gruber in Oklahoma, says an air reserve station press release.

The ground combat skills exercise refreshed the members’ skills and included classroom work, practical applications and military operations training for urban environments.
