Holmes, Trippi to fight Saturday
BROOKFIELD — A mixed martial arts welterweight championship bout between Jeff Holmes and Chris Trippi highlights a 16-bout outdoor card on Saturday at the Yankee Lake “Brawlroom.”
Trippi (5-0) is from Warren while Holmes (6-0) is from Driftwood, Pa.

Scrappers collect food for free passes
NILES — Fans bringing two non-perishable food items to Eastwood Field on Sunday will receive a free ticket to the Scrappers’ 6:05 p.m. game against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
Second Harvest Food bank is teaming up with the Scrappers for the promotion.
Fireworks will follow the game.
Youngstown team to play at state
YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Star team will compete in the state playoffs Saturday through July 16 in Springfield.
Home-run challenge set at Eastwood
NILES — The Mahoning Valley Epilepsy Foundation will sponsor the Mahoning Valley Home Run Challenge Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Eastwood Field.
The challenge is for high school baseball players and admission is $5.
Proceeds will go the MVEF to help children suffering from epilepsy to attend specialized camps.
Poland’s Mancini finishes third
CHARDON — Maria Mancini of Poland, competing in the girls 12-15 division shot 51-44—95 to finish third in the Plain Dealer North Coast Junior tour Thursday at Pleasant Hill golf course. Caitlin Kempton of Shaker Heights took first place with 82.
Body boxing show set July 19
NILES — Retired boxer Rusty Rosenberger will present a body boxing/safe boxing show on July 19 at 7 p.m. at the 75th Mt. Carmel Festival.
Rosenberger developed body boxing which allows only punches thrown to the body or torso. Rounds cost $20 with proceeds going to Mt. Carmel Church.

Salem’s Hutton pick Mount U.
ALLIANCE — Salem High graduate Austen Hutton, will continue his athletic career at Mount Union College this fall.
A 5-foot-8, 175-pound tailback, Hutton was a captain as well as a three-year letterman for the Quakers. He was second-team All MAC, first-team All County and honorable mention All District.
He was second in the conference in all-purpose yards with 1,406.

Conrad kicks Wizards past New York
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Jimmy Conrad matched a career high with his fourth goal of the season, leading the Kansas City Wizards to a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Thursday night.
Davy Arnaud added a second-half goal for the Wizards, who recorded their first multigoal game since a 3-2 home win over Colorado on April 5. Kansas City (5-5-5) is unbeaten in its last three matches, with two wins and a tie, after going winless in the previous seven.
Juan Pablo Angel, making his first start since June 5, got the Red Bulls within 2-1 with a goal in the 68th minute. New York (5-6-5) is 0-2-1 in its last three matches and has been outscored 7-2 over that span.
The Wizards and Red Bulls are tied for last place in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference with 20 points.
