Scrappers notebook From Eastwood Field


TV time: MyYTV will broadcast its second Scrappers game of the season on Friday when Mahoning Valley plays Vermont at 7:05 p.m. at Eastwood Field. The station also will air the July 28 game at State College.

Discounts brewing: All CC Sabathia merchandise was 25 percent off at the Scrappers’ gift shop. Sabathia went 0-0 with a 1.83 ERA in six games (19 2‚Ñ3 innings) for Mahoning Valley in 1999. Sabathia, who was traded to the Brewers this week, was the first Scrapper to make it to the Indians.

Scrappers’ notable: The Scrappers are 6-4 this season when they score first and are 8-0 when leading after eight innings. ... Jeremie Tice leads the Scrappers with a .314 batting average, followed by Brock Simpson’s .311 mark. ... No Scrapper is in the league’s top 10 in pitching or hitting.

Around the NYPL: The Staten Island Yankees entered Wednesday’s action with a nine-game winning streak. The streak included three wins over the Scrappers. Staten Island was 14-7, which is the second-best record in the league behind Jamestown (13-6). ... Vermont’s P.J. Dean, Wednesday’s starter, entered the game as the league’s top pitcher with a 2-0 record and a O.50 ERA. ... Lowell’s Mitch Denning leads the league with a .373 average.
